General FAQ

Is SSH supported?

The Secure Shell protocol is supported. You may use an SSH client to connect to our servers with your regular login information.

Is PHP Supported?

Yes! PHP3 and PHP4 are both supported.

Is MySQL Supported?

Yes! MySQL is supported for a small fee of $5.00 a month which covers setup, administration and monitoring.

How do I cancel My Account?

If for any reason (we can't think of any) you would like to terminate your account with us, just e-mail our Sales Department with your login, and name. We will e-mail a confirmation note to verify that the cancellation order originated from you and then your account will be cancelled.

How do I change my Password?

To change your password, you need to telnet into the server. (If you don't know how to telnet, see the Telnet faq). Once you connect to the server, type your login and password. Then you must use the command 'passwd' to change it. Here's an example:

[billy@speedhost billy]$ passwd
Changing password for billy
(current) UNIX password:
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully

Although the passwords are not shown on the screen when you're doing this, they will be updated. Passwords are recommended to be longer than six characters, contain both upper and lower case characters and possibly numbers.

Can I use IRC on this system?

IRC is strictly prohibited on this system. It is mentioned in the SpeedHost.Com Rules. Using IRC on our system, will result in a warning issued. A second time will have inmediate account termination as an effect. Please refrain from using any IRC related program such as clients, bridges, vhosts, etc. (If you don't know if your program falls into this category, assume it does, and ask first).

When and How will I get Billed?

We will initially bill you the same day you sign up for the account. So your term will be paid in advance. Your credit card will be billed depending on the contract length you initially sign up for. We will assume that you wish to continue to host with us, and will automatically renew your contract when it ends.

Why can't I post legal mp3 files?

While there are both legal and illegal "mp3" files, both types are banned from SpeedHost.Com pages without consent from the administrators.

In most cases, these files generate incredible amounts of traffics which do not fall within the average usage. Please contact the system administrator before posting files of this type.

Are Frontpage Extensions supported?

We currently do not host any NT based servers and do not plan to do so in the near future. Since that fact may change overnight, we will happily notify those customers that have inquired about this.

What if I go over my Account Space Limit?

Each of the SpeedHost.Com accounts has a space limit ranging from 3 to 350MBs. This is not a hard limit and it is not enforced as that in our system. However if you go over your limit, you will be warned, and will have 24 hours to remove the extra data from your account. If the overflow persists, random picked files will be deleted to put the user back within the account range.

Does every account have it's own Domain Name?

In most cases, for each user account there will be a domain (whether second level or third level) assigned to it. In special cases when the person does not require a domain name for the user account, none will be assigned.

Is it possible to have additional login/password sets?

Only one user or person is allowed to be logged in to the system per each of the Web packages you own. If you want to have an additional login, you can get an extra Web Package, like a MiniWeb for example with its readily low price and get an additional login. Note that if you have an account that is billed monthly (SpeedWeb, JumboWeb), we can add the MiniWeb charges on a $5.00 monthly basis instead of paying for the whole year in advance.
